Should Tessanne Chin….or Shouldn’t She? Views from a Hypocrisy-Intolerant Music Lover
It's amazing the amount of utter garbage people can spurt in their ignorance! Oh my goodness....people who claim to know about music in general and Jamaican music in particular! Tags: jamaica, Tessanne Chin
dwl dwl dwl dwl...the local market supports the artist in their initial play at a career in the genre.....it is ludicrous to think that it can support a career in the way that artists need to be, inorder that they make a livelihood n not juss a living...
every artist from every country in the world realises that to make money as in REAL money , they need to hit THE market that has always shown its willingness to use its discretionary spending n buy music....i.e. THE USA....reggae made its first international foray on the European market....yep Britain is still part of Europe...money was made n fame was garnered, but alll, including Bob realised that making it in the USA was the ultimate prize...he lamented the fact that Black magazines etc did not embrace his foray as did their White counterparts...but i digress
so yes, Artists need to make it in the US market to make it big in many a sense...however, to expect 2.5 million people to make the said impact shows a still to be reached understanding of this thing called the music business...n artists who tour frequently r not necessarily cross over artists as they continue to play to the same said n few macro markets of West Indian populations....n even those r not as lucrative as they once were...discretionary spending is even more discretionary within our diasporans....
Diana King continues to enjoy a career saved by her Far East fans....n the list goes on...
So big up Tessanne n as she said, her stepping forth in faith to take her career to the next step...her love of rock, was it...whether she ends up doing rock or reggae, the path has already been broken down somewhat by the lucky few who have themselves scored the much sought after, but mostly illusive gold n platinum soundscan sales.....Benji Myers made the initial foray into rock as a Jamaican artist...hopefully Tessanne will accomplish what he started
She has my vote...her voice totally rocks n she IS the package of a lifetime....her look being at odds with her accent...she is a marketing dream...wish i was on her team....whether she wins the Voice or not, she is set for stardom n even more important, success in her musical career...it is all up to the team she amasses to guide her in this new American music market....
